The final week of the first semester is here!  Talk with your teachers if you have a question about your grade!  Remember to look at the 1st Semester Cumulative grade on EnGrade!!  Attend AIS/Freshman Focus to make up work or use as study time!! Exams are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Lady Warriors are 1-1!  Wrestling is off to a great start!   Boys Basketball will start this week!  Swim team is going strong!

Congratulations to the RHS Cheerleaders! #StateBound

The cheer team placed second in the Regionals Saturday and qualified for States, which will be held December12th!  Great job ladies!!!

Congratulations to the boys JROTC for placing 3rd at the National Competition this past weekend!  

Congrats to Cecil Dean for placing 4th in the individual competition!  Also congratulations to all of the members of the Raider team who represented RHS!  

Our student-run Food Pantry is still collecting items for distribution on Nov 21. Please consider donating thanksgiving items!

Congrats to the Cross Country Team for an awesome showing at the State meet this weekend!!!

RHS had our first ever XC team compete in the boys state race, placing 11th. This is an incredible feat and the future is bright for Coach Boggess and his young runners!

Congrats #Warriors!


  • The band performance at the Kanawha County Band Festival was GREAT!  Heaven Mize earned a gold medal for Field Commander.  The band earned silver in band playing and marching.  
  • Congrats to the JROTC Raider Team on their performance on Saturday. Out of 11 teams from Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia, the boys came home as 1st place Champions! The girls earned 3rd place! 
  • The cross-country team completed in the GW Invitational and finished with a 2nd place trophy. Three young men were in the top 10!

Best of luck to our very own Pride of Riverside as they display their talents at the Majorette & Band Festival at Laidley Field on Tuesday at 6:30!  Mr. Mullins has tickets until the end of the day-Monday.  Tickets are $7 or $8 at the gate.  Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the eight Kanawha County band programs!  The WVU Marching Band will be performing after the high school bands!

Thank you to Warrior Nation and all that donated to the Food Pantry!  Over 60 families were served on Saturday!  Also thank you to Profe Denham and the students that staff and organize this service to the community! Now we start to restock... distribution is on the 3rd Saturday of the month.  

AP Students: Remember to turn in your $20.00 deposit per test by Friday to Ms. Kennedy.  Ms. Kennedy will also be available Wednesday, 2nd half of Warrior Time, to discuss any concerns.

Warrior Time: Remember that you are responsible for your learning and the care of the building! Check your Engrade! You are required to go to Freshman Focus or AIS Tuesday-Thursday if you are failing a core class.  If you need help getting into Engrade, see a counselor or an administrator.  

Parents: You have a separate Engrade account! Contact your child's counselor or an administrator if you do not have access to the account.  

AP Students: Remember to bring your AP Expectations Agreement Form (yellow) to Ms. Kennedy by September 18.  The deposit of $20.00 per AP test is due by September 25.  See Ms. Kennedy Tuesday if you need assistance.

Students,
KCS has initiated a new filtering system.  If you are having trouble on your iPad, follow the steps when you get to school tomorrow.  

  1. You will first open Safari at school, you will be asked to sign in with your computer login (your student number-3900#). You must first open Safari and login before you will be able to access anything on the web.
  2. If you cannot log in, contact Mr. Longsworth during Warrior Time (B28).

Fall sports are off to a good start...

  • The boys cross country team finished 3rd (out of 17 teams) in the Autumn Classic on Saturday! Nick Kennedy finished 5th and Cecil Dean finished 13th.  Great job!!!

  • Boy and Girls soccer teams fought hard Friday and represented Riverside well.  
  • Volleyball had a scrimmage against Ravenswood Friday, looking good.

First Day of School!!!

Welcome Back WARRIOR NATION!

We are excited to see everyone!!!

  • Breakfast will be served from 6:45 to 7:05.  
  • Check in the commons for your homeroom class.  They will be separated by class and alphabetical.  
  • Homeroom will start at 7:15.  You will get your updated schedule.  
  • After about 5 minutes you will go to your first period class.  You will receive all of your handouts. 
  • Class meetings will happen throughout the day!

Warrior Summer

We hope that you are having a great summer!!!



  • One week of sports practices is in the books.  Two weeks to go.  Contact your coach if you need more information.  
  • JROTC had a great week at Camp Dawson in Kingwood, WV.  The week was full of water survival training, land navigation training, rock wall rappelling and a leadership challenge course.  Top shooters of the camp... Great job!

The Riverside HSTA club presented their symposium projects at Woodrow Wilson this past Saturday. Each group is judged then they average out the scores for each school in the region. Riverside is the Kanawha regional winner this year.  Congrats to all of the HSTA students, Mrs. Veazey and Mrs. Mullins!  Not all students are pictured.  

Seniors: 
  • What a great day this past Wednesday was during Awards Assembly!  Class of 2015 is made up of talented and intelligent young people!  
  • Senior trip is Monday!
  • Wednesday, May 20th.  
    • Graduation Practice at the Civic Center. This is MANDATORY!!  You MUST report to the Charleston Civic Center at 12:00. You will enter to the main floor to your right as you enter the Civic Center.  Visitors/guests will not be able to enter onto the floor.  You will be given your seat assignment at this time.
    • GRADUATION DAY!!!! Charleston Civic Center at 7:00pm,  You MUST be at the Civic Center and be in your seat no later than  6:00pm
    • Project Graduation!

Congratulations to Amber Ferrell for being a Kanawha County Secondary Principals Teacher of the Year Finalist!  Well deserved Miss Ferrell!!!

The track teams are still in action today at the Gazette/Friends of Coal Relays at Laidley Field.  Congrats to Maleah Penn for finishing 4th in the High Jump!

April 17- Announcements


Baseball game tonight @ 6!  Be there!

Saturday: 
  • Food Pantry is open from 9:00-10:30!  #WarriorsHelpingWarriors!!
  • Project Graduation will be hosting a huge event to raise money for our graduating seniors to have a safe night to celebrate their graduations!!! Beginning at 9 am there will be a yard sale, car wash, Drive-A-Ford campaign and food items to purchase!  Come out and support this great cause!!!
  • Softball games will be played tomorrow 2, 4 & 6.... Come support Strike Out Breast Cancer
  • Baseball games will be at 3 & 6.   
Seniors:
  • Scholarships
    • East Bank Alumni Scholarship will also award students that are going to an accredited trade or vocational school such as Carver or Ben Franklin Career & Technical Schools for any of their programs.
    • FCA has a $500 1 year scholarship-to be paid directly to college or trade school on enrollment.  Requirements: FCA membership, senior attending college or trade school next year, compose a 500 word typed, formal essay on discussing how your personal faith will guide your future.  
  • Senior trip will be Monday, May 18 to Cedar Point.  Price will range from $100-130.  Payments may begin now, due by April 24th.  See Amanda Merrill for more details.  
  • Project graduation forms and contracts are in the front office.  Fill them out and return as soon as possible!  Return to Kasidi Legg or the front office!  


  • Prom tickets are on sale at the store during Warrior Time.  $80
  • The annual athletic banquet will be May 3 at 3pm
  • Riverside Music Department presents Hairspray!  Friday, April 24th, 9:30.  Tickets are $5.00 in advance, $6.00 the day of the show.  Tickets are being sold in the Commons during Warrior Time.

    Best of luck to the show choir, Melodic Fusion, as they travel to Chicago for Nationals!

    Good luck to the softball and baseball teams as they travel to Myrtle Beach for tourneys during Spring Break!!!  

    Track Team... 

    • At Thursday's meet Nick Kennedy broke the school record again with a first place finish in the 1600, winning by 13 seconds after trailing for 3 laps. He also anchored the team of the Mile Medley relay of Khi Roach, Daniel Kelley, Duncan Buchko and himself. Dajon Watkins placed 6th in the 100, and was a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 teams that got edged out by narrow margins in both and claimed 2nd places in each. The boys team got 5th overall. 


    • A great performance in such cold weather and a special shout out to our RHS lady warrior track team for running great last night!

    • Senior Trip will be Monday, May 18 to Cedar Point.  Price will range from $100-$130.  You can start making payments now.  All $$ due April 24th.  See Amanda Merrill (in counseling office) for more details.
    • The yearbook needs your baby pictures and senior pictures by April 15th.  They will NOT be accepted after this date.  
    • Pick up your Senior ad forms in the office or in Ms. Ferrell's room (A53)!
